I’m Alex Rasekhi and my goal is to design devices to improve the world.
From a very young age, I have had the curiosity of a tinkerer. Breaking things open to see how they functioned, pressing every button on the dashboard of my parents car to see what would happen, even innocently sticking screwdrivers into outlets thanks to blissful ignorance. Curiosity killed the cat, but lucky for me I am not a feline, despite my inherently curious nature. As I got to my teen years, I began focusing on what I could not understand as a child, electricity. I knew that my hotwheels had round wheels and they could rotate on an axel. I understood that springs opposed any force brought onto them. Mechanical concepts came naturally to me but electronics piqued the part of me that would take "thats just how it works" for an answer. Most people know that turning a light switch on means the lights go on. The question why yearned in me. I spent more time than I care to admit trying to perfectly balance the lightswitch inbetween states of on and off. Maybe I could get the light to appear dim, my adolescent brain would imagine. After a point, I was lucky enough to be blessed with a workbench in my garage. A home for experiments and the implied havoc that comes with that.
My first endevour was to modify xbox controllers, getting better at Call Of Duty was a necessity for a 6th grader, and out of such necessity I learned a skill I would later master, soldering. Learning to make permanent electrical connections was something I thought to be impossible after cutting my fathers electronic tooth brush charging cable and being scolded for it many years earlier. Over time, I delved into the world of electronics. Full of timing circuits, voltage regulation, operational amplifiers, logic gates, microcontrollers, transformers and so much more. Learning these concepts on my own made me feel empowered. I felt that I was able to build things I wanted instead of having to purchase them. This feeling fed my motivation to continue. By the end of middleschool, I had build a few smaller projects like a transistor tester, a few high frequency square wave generators, some very rudimentry remote controlled cars and robots. With so much more to learn, I did not stop there. Throughout highschool...
Over the past decade, I've maintained a robust professional career through my experiences at Virtual Shield Systems, EarthCam, and Telemetrics. At Virtual Shield, an electronic security company, I focused on advancing security solutions, playing a crucial role in developing cutting-edge systems that protect physical and digital assets. My tenure at EarthCam allowed me to merge my technical expertise with creative vision, contributing to the development and deployment of innovative webcam technology used in construction, tourism, and various industries. At Telemetrics, I honed my skills in robotic camera control systems, enabling broadcasters and content creators to achieve precision and flexibility in their productions.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I have a passion for hands-on, creative projects in my garage. I enjoy laser cutting, where I transform digital designs into intricate pieces of art and functional items. 3D printing is another hobby of mine, allowing me to bring complex and unique creations to life, from prototypes to custom parts.
Additionally, I love flying drones, which gives me a sense of freedom and a new perspective on the world. Whether capturing stunning aerial photography or simply enjoying the thrill of flight, drone flying is a hobby that complements my technical interests and keeps me connected to the latest advancements in technology. These hobbies not only provide a creative outlet but also continuously inspire and enhance my professional skills.
